The Met ball is one of the most fashionable events of the year, held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The fundraising event was founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert in 1948 to encourage donations from New York’s high society. Now chaired by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Famous faces of fashion, film, music and art treat us to a wonderful night of fabulous frocks. This years’ theme was Heavenly Bodies – Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
This year was the 70th anniversary of the gala and co-chaired by Amal Clooney, Rhianna and Donatella Versace. The guests were treated to a surprise performance by Madonna who opened with “Like a Pray”.
I love this gala as no other event allows the freedom to express yourself. You can never be overdressed and the more outlandish the better. This is my top picks for hair and gowns and for more inspiration visit my Pinterest Met ball board
Pop Queen Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier, this theme was made for Madonna. Apart from her looking not a day over 20 I love the simplicity of the double braids. The braid trend it not going away and now becoming a dressed up chic look for a night out.
Lilly Collins wore Givenchy Couture, the actress clutched rosemary beads and had her hair pulled back into a super slick wet look power pony with multi-braid pony. This is one of my favourites of the night. I love telling a story through hair. For so many years we have had that ‘barely there wave’, coupled with the metal headdress this brought the theme to life through hair as well as clothing.
Rita Ora wore this classic Prada dress, totally beautiful and red carpet worthy. The perfectly straightened hair was crowed by a gorgeous head dress. This look was all about luxury, the hair is in gorgeous condition. Total hair envy!!!!
Jasmine Sanders wore this etherial braid, embellished with red roses and gold thread. This is an instagram favourite of the moment and is popular for brides and bridesmaids. If your hair is not long enough don’t worry this is easy to add extra hair in as you braid.
Amanda Seyfried stole the red carpet with her luscious waves by Christian Wood using ghd curve, this classic wave was dressed swept away from the face. The key to this look is the hair prep, make sure you use a volumising product and set using a small classic curl tong and then brush brush brush! My ultimate brush is the new ghd Oval dressing brush (only available in ghd salons).
Blake Lively’s crimson Versace gown with a gold, richly embroidered bodice, bejeweled straps, and an extra-long train was breathtaking and dominated the red carpet, this magnificent gown took more than 600 hours to create. Her tumbling textured hair was perfectly offset with a jewelled halo crown.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wearing custom made Ralph Lauren and this heavenly halo hoop. The hair is all about luxury and shine. The centre parting showed off the gloss and held in a sophisticated knotted bun showing off her perfect bone structure. This look in not forgiving and you need to have a flawless complexion.
